This famous person was repeatedly recognized as the "Russian of the Year" and "European of the Year". He rightfully can be considered a luminary of Russian medicine. Who are we talking about? Of course, about the doctor, whose name, name and patronymic are known all over the world. Roshal Leonid Mikhailovich. He can be called from anywhere in the world, and he will certainly respond to help the children. And often he does not have to ask: Dr. Roshal himself offers his help. In critical situations, he is ready to give up everything and go rescue people. This happened for the first time when in the end of 1988 an earthquake occurred in the Armenian Spitak. Hearing about the state of emergency, Doctor Roshal, present at the scientific conference, said that he immediately went to the epicenter and asked his colleagues: "Who will follow my example?" Almost everyone agreed. Immediately there was formed a team, which still travels around our country in order to provide medical care to children. So Dr. Roshal became famous throughout Russia.
However, the doctor never chased after glory. He was recognized exclusively for his outstanding services.
Facts from biography
Roshal Leonid Mikhailovich - a native of the town of Livny, located in the Orel region. He was born on April 27, 1933. In the prewar years, the family lived in a small apartment in Moscow, in 1941 had to move to the suburban Kubinka, and from there to Tatarstan. After the war, the future doctor Roshal, whose biography certainly deserves a separate examination, has replaced not one place of residence. "Help all over the world"
As already stressed, the doctor's team travels around the world to come to the rescue of those who suffered from man-made disasters, terrorist acts, military conflicts.
In particular, the team of Leonid Mikhailovich saved people after the railway accident near Ufa, the explosion of an industrial enterprise in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Members of Roshal's brigade repeatedly visited zones of warfare, namely: Yugoslavia, Georgia, Abkhazia, Romania, Azerbaijan, Chechnya. They also provided assistance to victims of earthquakes that occurred in India, Egypt, Japan, on the island of Sakhalin, in Turkey. Especially it should be noted the participation of Roshal's team in assisting the victims of the terrorist act that occurred in 2002, on Victory Day, in Dagestan Kaspiisk. The doctors immediately left for the scene of the tragedy, and then they managed to save about 27 children.
Events on Dubrovka
During the commission of the terrorist act, Leonid Mikhailovich was one of the few criminals allowed and released from the besieged building. The doctor made every effort to help the victims. He managed to get the child out of a faint, another boy rescued from asthmatic suffocation and prevented the development of an epileptic seizure, to which the third child was taken hostage.
Little of! Dr. Roshal in one of the toilet rooms of Nord-Ost arranged something like an operating room ... Here he helped people with bullet and shrapnel wounds. The doctor also provided medical assistance to the injured criminals. When it comes to fulfilling a professional duty, the lines between "our" and "other" patients are blurred. He made attempts to save all the victims from the pain, and outside the limits of "Nord-Ost" he provided moral support to their relatives and friends.
For the dedication and courage shown during the terrorist attack on Dubrovka, Leonid Mikhailovich was awarded the "National Hero" prize.
Today, the clinic of Dr. Roshal (Research Institute of Emergency Children's Surgery and Traumatology, Moscow) provides qualified medical care to small patients. Parents of babies are immensely grateful to the doctors for what they are doing.
Regalia and awards
Leonid Mikhailovich has a huge number of awards and regalia. We list some of them. He is the owner of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the fourth degree and the Order of Courage.
These awards he received for his enormous contribution to the development of medical science and for the dedication shown in the matter of saving people. Dr. Roshal also received the "Defender of Free Russia" medal for being able to fulfill his civic duty in defending the constitutional order and democracy during the August 1993 coup.
Leonid Mikhailovich also has a gratitude from the Russian president, who in 2003 noted his contribution to the development of health and medicine. Five years later, in 2008, he again receives gratitude from the head of state, but already for his contribution to the development of civil society institutions and the protection of human rights and freedoms. In addition, he was awarded the medal "For the Glory of Ossetia" and the distinction "For Services to Moscow".
In 1996, the media reported on Roshal that he is a doctor of the world.
Positions in domestic and international medical organizations
Leonid Mikhailovich takes an active part in public activities. He is an expert of WHO, honorary president of SAMU SOCIAL INTERNATIONAL, a member of the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons, an honorary member of the Association of Children's Surgeons of Russia, a member of the executive committee of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia.
The family of Dr. Roshal is a wife and son.
With his first wife, he divorced due to the fact that mutual understanding disappeared. However, Leonid Mikhailovich kept friendly relations with her. His second wife is engaged in science. The son of a doctor did not follow in the footsteps of his father and chose the path of an entrepreneur. Granddaughter Roshal wants to become a psychologist. "The world's doctor," as he was called "sharks of the pen," regrets only one thing: that he has only one child.
The film about Roshal
Leonid Mikhailovich's exploits are told in the documentary "I'm not Afraid of Nothing." Dr. Roshal piously believes that in the hot spots the Lord God protects him. He did not die when a bomb hit Yugoslavia in an ambulance, while Leonid Mikhailovich himself was driving in a car following the ambulance at the time. He also survived in Nagorno-Karabakh, when the shell hit the part of the house where the doctor examined the child's wounds.
"The main thing is to teach people to provide first aid"
Leonid Mikhailovich considers it his duty to teach people who are familiar with the basics of providing first aid, not to lose self-control, and also correctly and consistently perform all actions to save the life of the patient. In half the cases, victims simply die because people do not want to take responsibility for their fate before the arrival of the ambulance.
Dr. Roshal tirelessly reiterates on television and in the press that it is necessary to create a quality system for training paramedics.
He is categorically against the total production in our country of movies, the stories of which are impregnated with blood, violence and cruelty.
The doctor very much hopes that thanks to his efforts, one day an international organization of the world's first aid for children will appear. Once, he shared his plans with the employees of the non-governmental international organization Médecins Sans Frontières. However, those, unfortunately, ignored his initiative.
Leonid Mikhailovich still takes an active part in the life of the country. At the beginning of this year, he supported the idea of ending the military conflict in the Donbass. Being the co-chairman of the All-Russian Union of Public Associations "Civil Society for the Children of Russia", he considers it his duty to help kids and adolescents who have suffered in wars and catastrophes.
